Single School Plan Components

Fall 2004

  1. What are your problem statements?
  2. Student Achievement/Teacher Practice Problem Statement

Although we have many students in need of intervention strategies, we have very few interventions other than individual efforts by teachers. For the first time will be having an intervention teacher and an after school program, but we don't have a system to coordinate them, and we haven't determined what programs they will be using.

We now have data from the district assessments that indicate that our students have very large skill gaps, especially at the upper grades. For example, our 4th grade class has 15 students struggling with decoding.

Because of the constant transiency of this student population and that all groups are low performing, our target population will be the students as Title I. We still need to develop a system for assessing and serving newcomers that are struggling with literacy.

  3. What are your inquiry questions?
  4. Student Achievement Questions

    • What specific skills are struggling readers missing, and what progress are they making based on the district assessment?

    Teacher Practice Questions

    • Given our available resources and students' needs, what effective systems and practices can we implement for providing coordinated intervention (classroom and additional support) for our Title I students in reading?

  5. What are your measurable goals?
  6. Student Achievement Goals

    • Of our Title I students who are with us for two test cycles at least 20% will move up one level or more on the California Standards Tests.
    • Of out Title I students who are struggling with decoding past the second grade at least 75% of students below grade level in fluency will make greater than one year's growth.

    Teacher Practice Goals

    • By April, we wil have a coordinated system in place for assessing and serving all students who are in need of reading interventions.

  7. What are your major strategies?
    • Implement a system of collaboration of professional staff
    • Develop coordinated intervention program
    • Provide professional development to implement the intervention programs and support classroom practice
    • Continue to address school safety and discipline
