Background: Each month we recognize employees for their service to the District. The month we recognized:

2.) Marketing Program and DECA Report

Background: Staff made a presentation on Career Technical Education for the Professional Sales and Marketing pathway. The student organization of DECA was featured.

3.) Resolution 10-0041 Approval and Renewal of Alameda Coummunity Learning Center

Background: On January 12, 2010 the Board of Education received a charter renewal petition from Alameda Community Learning Center. A staff  has completed a review the charter renewal process they made a presentation to recommend approval of the charter renewal.

Fiscal Implications: None

4.)  Resolution 10-0040 Anti-Bullying Curriculum - Literature Recommendations

Background: The Superintendent directed staff to identify literature that explicitly address all six protected classes identified in Education Code 200: disability, gender, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

Staff worked with community members, parents and teachers to identify over 100 books. The books have been on public display since March 5. A final list will be presented at the April 13 Board meeting. Staff made a presentation recapping the process to date.

Fiscal Implications: $30,000, instructional materials and professional development

5.) Resolution  No 10-0038 Approval of Closure of Chipman Middle School

Background: On December 15, 2009, the Board of Education approved the Academy of Alameda Middle School charter petition. Staff  recommended closing Chipman Middle School based upon materials presented in prior Board meetings. The Board approved the recommendation to close Chipman Middle School.

Fiscal Implications: Up to $1.1 million depending on the MOUs that are pending with Academy of Alameda charter school.

6.) Resolution  No, 10-0037 Approval of Wood Middle School Boundary Changes

Background: With closure of Chipman Middle School, staff is recommended changes to Wood Middle School boundaries. The Board approved changing the boundaries.

Fiscal Implications: Unknown .

7.) Categorical Program Budget Review Part II

Background: Staff presented the second part in a review of categorical programs.

Fiscal Implications: None
