1.) Employee(s) of the Month

Background: Each month we recognize employees for their service to the District. The month we recognized:

  • Dan Goldfield, Math Teacher, Island High School
  • Seo Hee (Janet) Lee, Adaptive P.E. Teacher, Special Education

2.) Highlighting Alameda Schools - Lum Elementary School

Background: Staff will be presented a report on the academic program at Lum Elementary School.

3.) Proclamation in Recognition of Harvey Milk Day - May 22, 2010

Background: On October 11, 2009 Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB572, declaring May 22 as "Harvey Milk.Day". The Board approved the proclamation.

4.)  FUSION Update

Background: As part of the District's goal to increase student achievement for all students, AUSD implemented SIM (Strategic Instruction Model) from Kansas University. In addition, FUSION is another set of strategies designed to address specific reading problems for learners two or more grade levels below their current grade level. Staff presented an update on the results of the FUSION program.

5.) Principal Learning Update

Background: Staff presented an update on the the principal professional development for 2009-10..

6.) California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Update

Background: Staff presented the 2009 CAHSEE data.

7.) Budget Update - 2010/11 Budget including $7 million in Cuts and Categorical Funding

Background: Staff presented an update on the 2010/11 budget.

8.) Approval of Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators

Background: Each year staff is required to document the need for a waiver for certain hard to fill positions in Special Education and single subject credentials. the Board approved the waiver.

9.) Resolution 10-0055 Final Certificated Layoffs

Background: As part of the budget reductions from the State, staff is recommending the layoff of certificated teachers for 2010/11. The board approved the resolution.

Fiscal Implications: Up to $6 million dollars in savings.

10.) Resolution 10-0056  Intent to Lay-Off Classified Employees, California Schools Employees Association (CSEA Chapter 27, Office/Technical and Paraprofessional Unit)

Background: Due to pending budget cuts, 45 day notice must be given to affected employees. The Board approved the resolution.

Fiscal Implications: Up to $1 million in savings.
