BOE Meeting for September 9 BOE Meeting

1.) Employee of the Month

Background: Each month the District recognizes an outstanding employee. This month we recognized Allen Nakamura, Alameda High School Social Science teacher.

Fiscal Implications: None

Superintendent Goal: Goal #4 Recruit and retain high qualified personnel.

2.) Superintendent Search Update

Background: Superintendent Dailey announced her retirement in early July and her retirement is effective January, 2009. The California School Boards Association has been selected to conduct a search process for a new Superintendent. The Superintendent will give an udpate.

2008 Superintendent Selection Process

September 8 (Lum Elementary) and September 22 (Ruby Bridges Elementary) : Community Meetings

CSBA will be conducting one on one interviews with selected community and district stakeholders during the day. The attendance at the first community was under 10 people.
September 23 Board Meeting
CSBA will present a summary of community input at a Board meeting.
October 22 - Application Period Ends
Candidates will need to submit their application by this date.
November 15 and November 16 - Interviews
The November dates gives the existing Board the flexibility to accomodate newly elected Board members in the process.

3.) Standardized Testing and Reporting

Background: Staff made a presentation on the Academic Performance Index (API) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for each of the school sites. Due to data processing errors, reporting for the high schools will be delayed until November.

The yearly API growth data along site demographics data provide a historical perspective.

Staff is preparing a Math Summit in the Fall to discuss the declining proficiency scores in the grades 7 to 11.

4.) Beginning Teacher Support and Assistance (BTSA) Update

Background: In order for beginning teachers to receive a clear credential school districts provide a two year undcution process. AUSD works with the East Bay BTSA Induction Consortium to provide the required course work for the beginning teachers. Staff reported the number of participants in this year's program has dropped from the mid 30s to 15.

5.) First Week of School Enrollment

Background: Staff presented a recap of day five enrollment.
