Recap for February 9 BOE MeetingSchool District Formal Agenda - PDF Version including Consent Items Under consent items, the Board approved the 2010/2011 calendar. 1.) Highlighting Alameda Schools - Alameda High School Background: Staff presented highlights about Alameda High school including their program offerings and the AVID program. Fiscal Implications: None. 2.) Employee(s) of the Month Background: Every month the District honors employees who go above and beyond. This month we honored: Frank Munoz, Custodian, Bay Farm Elementary. Fiscal Implications: None 3.) Master Plan Final Recommendation Background: Since March, 2009 AUSD have been working toward a new long term Master Plan. After eight community workshops, hosted by the board and Superintendent; 29 smaller meetings hosted by independent, trained "Public Education Volunteers"; 30 school site meetings led by principals and other site leaders; two community surveys on the AUSD website; and a teacher survey developed by the Alameda Education Association, the Superintendent has prepared a Master Plan document along with a implementation timeline. After a staff presentation, the Board provided input for final adoption at the February 23 BOE meeting. Fiscal Implications: Unknown 4.) Reorganization of the District Office for Greater Service and Efficiencies - Part 2 Background: As part of the AUSD Master Planning process an efficiency assessment has been conducted. The report recommends restructuring the District Office. The second part of the study covered recommendations for the educational services area. Fiscal Implications: None 5.) PUBLIC HEARING: Renewal of Alameda Community Learning Center (ACLC) Charter Background: There was a public hearing the on the renewal of the ACLC charter after a presentation by ACLC staff. Fiscal Implications: None. 6.) Discussion of Possible Rates and Projected Revenues of New Parcel Tax Background: At the January 12, 2010 BOE meeting staff presented a summary of the work of Parcel Tax Advisory Group. Based on the Master Plan and the reduced funding levels from the State of California, staff will be presenting various parcel tax rates/structures and their projected revenue implications. Fiscal Implications: Unknown. 7.) Possible Implications of Academy of Alameda Middle School Charter School Background: Staff was to present an update on implications of the Board's approval of the Academy of Alameda charter school and implications for Chipman Middle School. Due to the late hour, this agenda item was tabled. Fiscal Implications: Unknown. 8.) Approval of Resolution No. 10-0011 Intent to Reduce Classified Employees, California School Employees Association (CSEA Chapter 27. Paraprofessional Unit) Background: Due to reduced need for services, a SPED paraprofessional and a bilingual paraprofessional hours will be reduced. The Board approved the resolution. Fiscal Implications: $3700 for the remainder of the school year 9.) Budget Information Update - Categorical Program Update Background: Staff was to make a presentation about monies spent on categorical programs. Due to the late hour, this agenda item was tabled.
