1.) Employees of the Month

Background: Each month we recognize employees for their accomplishments nominated by fellow employees. This month we recognized:

  • Rob Siltanen, Director of Educational Opportunties
  • Anne Casper, Alameda High School Teacher

2.) GATE Enrichment - Stock Marker Winners

Background: Students participated in an after school enrichment program where they had 10 weeks to manage a stock portfolio. Elementary school students competed with 200 groups from other elementary, middle and high schools. Student from Edison School won the competition with 17% increase by "shorting" stocks.

3.) Highlighting Alameda Schools - Ruby Bridges Elementary School

Background: Staff gave a presentation on the academic program at Ruby Bridges Elementary School.

4.)  Intent for Proposal for Magnet Schools

Background: As part of the Master Plan, district staff created a preliminary form to identify individuals interested in creating a magnet school program. Six groups created intent for proposal to create magnet school programs.

5.) Public Hearing - Budget Preview For Fiscal Year 2010/11

Background: Staff presented a preview of the 2010/11 budget for AUSD.

Fiscal Implications: None.

6.) Proposed Accountabilty System Tiering for Schools

Background: The Superintendent presented a proposed accountability system for tiering schools' performance. There will be tiers for schools: Excellence, Performing, Challenge. Schools are placed in these three categories based on their scores in Acievement Gap, Overall Achievement and Achievement Growth. All of the elementary school except one are either in the Excellence or Performing category. All of the secondary schools and Washington Elementary are in the Challenge category.

7.) Distirct Office Customer Service Scorecards, Standards & Metrics by Department

Background: Staff presented an overview of implementation of a system to measure the customer service provided by District Office to the schools. Scorecards for individual departments. Fiscal Services, Food Services, Human Resources, MOF, Special Education and Student Services.

8.) Single School Plans for Student Achievement

Background: Each year schools are required to prepare their Single School Plan for the coming school year. The plans were reviewed and approved by the Board of Education.

9.) School Calendar - Shortened Instructional Year

Background: Staff presented  a 175 instructional days school year calendar if Measure E fails. .

10.) Approval of Resolution No. 10-0058 Regarding Specifications of the Election Order – as Required by the County Office of Education

Background: As preparation for the November 2010 election, the Board of Education approved specifications for conducting the election for the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.

Fiscal Implications: None.

11.) Approval of Resolution No. 10-0059 Regarding Specifications of the Election Tie – as Required by the County Office of Education

Background: As preparation for the November 2010 election, the Board of Education approved specifications for conducting the election for the Alameda County Registrar of Voters..

12.) Approval of Resolution No. 10-0060 Regarding Specifications of the Candidate Statements– as Required by the County Office of Education

Background: As preparation for the November 2010 election, the Board of Education approved specifications for conducting the election for the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.
