Fiscal Implications: None 2.) Highlighting Alameda Schools: Adult School Background: The new principal, Thomas Orput will presented Welcome to the New Dawn to highlight Adult School programs. Fiscal Implications: None. 3.) Alameda Youth Commission Background: In 2007 the Mayor and City Council adopted an ordinance to create the Youth Advisory Commission. Members from the Commission presented an overview of their activities to date. Fiscal Implications: None 4.) Proclamation: Walk & Roll to School Day Background: Walk and Roll to School Day is a longstanding tradition in Alameda, marking its 9th anniversary this year. The Board of Education joined with Pedestrian Friendly Alameda to encourage everyone to participate. Fiscal Implications: None 5.) Approval of Board Policy 0420(a) Charter Schools Background: Updating Board policy 0420.4(a) will clarify procedural expectations related to charter petitions. The proposed language will make explicit that a charter is a contract requiring mutual accountability focused on student achievement and affirms AUSD staff will evaluate carefully the merits of charter petitions based on all applicable legal requirements and assure that AUSD monitors charter schools sufficiently. PUBLIC HEARING: Approval of Resolution 09-0057 Certification of Requirement of Education Code Section 60119 for Pupil Textbook and Instructional Materials Incentive Program for K-12 for Fiscal Year 2009/ Background: This item will be presented at October 13 meeting. Fiscal Implications: None 7.) Summer School Report Background: Postponed until October 13 BOE meeting. Fiscal Implications: None 8.) Chipman Program Improvement Status Report Background: Staff presented an overview of the implications of Chipman Middle School entering the fourth year of Program Improvement. Staff will provide more specific information about the specific actions taking place at Chipman in October. Fiscal Implications: None 9.) State of the District Background: Staff presented the API scores for each of the schools as well as State of the District. Fiscal Implications: None 10.) Approval of Resolution No. 09-0058 Intent to Dismiss Classified Employees, California School Employees Association (CSEA- Chapter No. 27, Paraprofessional Unit) Background: Services are not needed for FARSI bilingual services of .375 FTE paraprofessional and 2 SPED paraprofessionals of .1875 FTE .
