BOE Meeting for November 27, 2007 1.) Charter School Workshop Background: In keeping the Board of Education informed on the most recent charter school law and regulations, Chuck Cadman, from School Consulting, Inc., provided an in depth review of the most current information on charter schools. Highlights included:
At the next Board meeting, the Board of Education will review the charter petition for a new Community Learning Center. The charter petition is from the newly formed Community Learning School, Inc. and the new umbrella organization overseeing the Alameda Coummunity Learning Center. Superintendent Goal: Goal #1 Close the achievement gap. 2.) Alameda Unified School District School Year Calendar for 2008-09 Background: The Alameda Education Association and the District ratified a new contract in 2007. This contract includes specific language on the calendar. Staff updated the Board on the progress for the finalization of the 2008-09 calendar. Because of specific contract langauge, the AEA and AUSD is working on Memorandum of Understanding to allow a school year before Labor Day when deemed appropriate. It is expected that the calendar will be presented for approval at the December meeting. In prior years approval of calendar was as late as March. Superintendent Goal: #3 Attract retain quality employees.
