Alameda has been home to my family for decades, and its public schools have been an important part of our lives. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

My involvement in Alameda education has included years as a parent, community member, and twelve years serving on the AUSD Board of Education.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the people who make our schools work\u2014and for the importance of thoughtful, responsible governance.<\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

ROOTED IN ALAMEDA<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t

My connection to Alameda schools began as a parent and grew into decades of involvement in public education.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Schools are more than institutions. They are places where students develop confidence and curiosity, where educators build relationships that can last a lifetime, and where families and communities come together around a shared investment in the next generation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Having watched my children\u2014and now my grandchildren\u2014experience Alameda schools has kept that connection very personal.<\/p>\n\t\t

EXPERIENCE IN PUBLIC EDUCATION<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t

I served twelve years on the Alameda Unified School District Board of Education.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Board service taught me that good governance rarely begins with having all the answers. It begins with listening carefully, understanding different perspectives, asking the right questions, and keeping the interests of students at the center of decisions.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

It also taught me the importance of supporting excellent educators while being responsible stewards of the community\u2019s public schools.<\/p>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n

WHAT I\u2019VE LEARNED<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Time away from the Board gave me an opportunity to continue learning and to look at public education from a different perspective.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

One lesson has become increasingly important to me: we should remain lifelong learners. Another is that communities have more ability to shape change than we sometimes assume.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

That is particularly relevant as new technologies such as artificial intelligence enter education. Technology will continue to evolve, but Alameda can have a meaningful voice in deciding how it is used in our schools.<\/p>\n\t\t

LOOKING FORWARD<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t

The challenges facing public education today are different from those I encountered during my previous Board service, but the fundamentals remain the same.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Strong schools depend on excellent teaching, responsible governance, meaningful partnerships with families, and a willingness to listen and learn.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Experience matters, but so does curiosity. I hope to bring both to the conversations about the future of Alameda schools.<\/p>\n\t\t
