City Charter Resolution

Currently, the the Alameda City Charter contains language which references the Board of Education. The primary reference is Article 11. The Board of Education voted 4-0 to ask the City Council to approve a resolution for placement on the November 2, 2004 ballot.

Ballot Measure Language

Shall the Charter of the City of Alameda be amended to delete references to the Board of Education resulting in the Board no longer being subject to, controlled and/or governed by the Charter but instead governed by State law?

Update: During the League of Women Voters Ballot Measure Forum, the League pointed out that the analysis of charter measure does not contain language regarding the elimination of term limits for School Board members. While the Article 11 does not have any language regarding the election of School Board members, by removing the references of the Board of Education from the City Charter it does also remove the term limit restrictions for School board members.

New Process for Filing for Office

With passage of Measure F, Alameda Unified School District files the following form with the Alameda County Registar of Voters by June 30th of even numbered year. Candidates for school board must go the Alameda County Registar of Voters office to get and complete the necessary paperwork to run.
