Single School Plan Components

Fall 2004

  1. What are your problem statements?
  2. Student Achievement Problem Statements

    • Although most of our students are at or above grade level in reading, about 10% of our students are at risk of retention or of concern to their teachers. A disproptionate number of these student are minority students, come from low income families or both. We have a system of intervention in place for our targeted students, but are not seeing sufficient growth to accelerate progress of these students to grade level standards.

    Teacher Practice Problem Statements

    • In the area of teacher practice, staff is continuing to gain skill and experience with Houghton Mifflin Reading program and assessments, but need continued support in program implementation, use of data and intervention strategies. The staff members have begun to use grade level and cross grade level collaboration, but need additional support in developing grade level agreements and processes for cycle of inquiry.

  3. What are your inquiry questions?
  4. Student Achievement Questions

    • What literacy skills do target students need to increase their performance to acheive at Benchmark level on designated assessments?

    Teacher Practice Questions

    • How can we use Universal Access to increase the skills of targeted students?
    • What Structures and procedures can be used for teachers to use flexible grouping to meet individual student needs and to assess student achievement?

  6. Student Achievement Goals

    • Identified "at risk" students will make progress toward Benchmark level reading by 6/2005, as measured by Houghton Mifflin assessments (ELS and Fluency or Phonics Decoding and Fluency)

    Teacher Practice Goals

    • Staff will further enhance their skills and processes for using data and flexible grouping to meet the needs of targeted students
    • Staff will increase skill in implementing Houghton Mifflin Reading program and assessments

    • Utilize Universal Access to target instruction for target students
    • Reading learners and Literacy Leadership team to provide ongoing support and assistance with program implementation and the use of data
    • Work with other site teams to develop structure, process and materials for data collection and inquiry questions
