Highlighting Alameda Schools - Edison Elementary Background: The staff presented an overview of the academic accomplishments of their school. Fiscal Implications: None. 2. Recognition of Outgoing Student Board Members Background: This year's Student Board Members were recognized for the year of service. They were: Kelsey Reed - Alameda High School, Elizabeth Dietz - Alameda Science & Technology Institute, Kelly McCormick - Encinal High School and
Jinsu Paik - Island High School. Fiscal Implications: None. 3.) Update on the Status of Leaving District Offices Background: Staff presented an update on the work being done to move staff out of the District Office. Fiscal Implications: To be determined 4.) Recommendation to Rename Washington Elementary School Background: Staff presented a review of the process to rename Washington Elementary which is opening a new magnet school. The naming committee has chosen to name the school after Maya Lin. Maya Lin has maintained a careful balance between art and architecture throughout her career, creating a remarkable body of work that includes large-scale site-specific installations, intimate studio artworks, architectural works and memorials. Fiscal Implications: None. 5.) Board Policy on Student Board Member Background: Student board members indicated they were happy with the current process that allows each school site use a different process to select student board member. No changes were made. Fiscal Implications: None. 6.) Update on the 2012/13 Calendar Background: Staff present a recap of the activities that have led up to not being able to adopt a 2012/13 calendar. Fiscal Implications: None.
