Special BOE Meeting for July 21, 2004 1. Appointment of Principal, Alameda High School Background: The administration presented Mike Janvier for appointment to be the principal at Alameda High School. Mike Janvier previous assignment was the Chief Personnel Officer at Hayward Unified School District after serving as principal at Lincoln Middle School. The Board voted 4-0 to approve him. 2. Appointment of Vice Principal, Encinal High School Background: The administration presented Brian McGarry for appointment to be the assistant principal at Enical High School. Brian McGarry was the assistant principal at Gunderson High School in San Jose. The Board voted 4-0 to approve him. 3. Appointment of Principal, Vice Principal Adult School Background: The administration presented Mary McCann for appointment to be the assistant principal for the Adult School. The Board voted 4-0 to approve her. 4. Approval of Agreement between Alameda Unified School Dictrict and the California School Employees Association Background: District negotiating teams for the Alameda Unified School District and the California School Employees Association met pursant Article 21, paragraph A. As a result, a tentative agreement for 2003/04 and 2004/05 was reached. The major cost implications include increased payments to the medical plans and a one time bonus in 2004/05. In addition, the parties have reached a tentative agreement that establishes parameters for the negotiation of a successor contract during 2004/05. The Board approved the agreement 4-0. 5. Appointment of Member to the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee Background: At the June 29th Board meeting, the Board appointed six members to the Citizens Oversight Committee. At that time we unable to fill a slot for a member from a taxpayers orgranization. Basil Shiber will the seventh member appointed. The Board voted 4-0 to approve him. 6. Resolution 04-3900 Authorizing the Issuance of Alameda Unified School District (Alameda County, California) Election of 2004 General Obligation Bonds, Series A Background: In, March, 2004, Alameda voters approved Measure C, authorizing to issue up to $63 million in general obligation bonds. This resolution approves issuance of the first series of bonds. The Board voted 4-0 to approve the resolution. 7. Boys/Girls Club Joint Partnership Background: The Boys/Girls Club are proposing building a new facility on the current Woodstock property. The proposed 25,000 square foot facility will include all of the existing services as well as new services including medical/dental screening room. The estimated cost is between $5 and $6 million dollars which would be raised through various sources by Boys/Girls Club. If everything goes according to plan they would like to have plans approved by June 2005 with groundbreaking in Summer 2005 and opening in Summer 2006. Alameda Unified School District would provide the land.
