What Did You Learn from 2005/06 Cycle of Inquiry?

  1. Looking at your data what general trends do you see? What does the data tell us about how the focus group did? How much progress did they make? How does this compare to growth of other subgroups? Is the student achievement gap closing?
  2. Edison School does not have enough students a for sub groups. We have however identified students that we consider to be “at risk” and thereby are scoring below proficiency. Students in the category below Proficiency include students in the resource program.

Grade five students, as a group have continued to have higher test scores than each year at Edison School.

  3. What evidence/data do you have regarding the level of implementation of the teacher/instructional practice and/or schoolwide practice that you planned in your last Cycle of Inquiry? Include information about what was not implemented as well as what was implemented.
  4. Evidence data regarding the level of implementation of teacher practice includes observational data, walk-throughs, grade level meeting minutes and leadership team discussions and minutes.

  5. What evidence do you have that your focus on these students has positively impacted their learning?
  6. Students are receiving in class and out of classroom intervention that includes intervention teacher support, the after school SME Program, the Read Naturally Program, . Assessment results from all of these programs have shown an increase in student achievement, an increase in their confidence level.

  7. Is there anything else you learned in examining your data that will inform your revised problem statement?
  8. Consistent use of researched based strategies overtime is showing an improvement in student achievement.

Fall 2006

  2. Problem Statements

    Student Achievement Problems

75%f the students that attend Edison School are at or above grade level in reading and math in grades 2-5. Disaggregated state, district, and classroom data from 2005-06 as indicated in the AUSD multiple measures reports shows that although the number of students who score in the far below basic and below basic category is decreasing in the proficient and advanced categories.

    Teacher Practice Problems

Teachers need to identify those instructional strategies that will continue to increase the achievement levels of the at risk, and the low performing students and those strategies that will maintain the high achievement levels of the proficient and advanced categories.

  3. What are your inquiry questions?
  4. Student Achievement Questions

What are the specific skills areas at the 2-5 grade level we need to address to improve student performance especially for at risk and low performing students?

What skills will help to maintain the achievement levels of our proficient and advanced students?

    Teacher Practice Questions

How can we best utilize our existing intervention programs? Are there other intervention programs to review and explore?

Which specific strategies do we need to implement to maintain or increase performance of all students?

  5. What are your measurable goals?
  6. Student Achievement Goals

Students in targeted groups will increase their student performance as measured by: Multiple Measures Assessments, student portfolios, and other observational data.
