Single School Plan Components

What Did You Learn from 2006/07 Cycle of Inquiry?

  1. Looking at your data what general trends do you see? What does the data tell us about how the focus group did? How much progress did they make? How does this compare to growth of other subgroups? Is the student achievement gap closing?
  2. Most of our students score in P or A range
    % below basic is small.

2nd had 0% in B, FBB in math
2nd had 0% in B, FBB in reading
Total school last 2 years –reading
4th grade amount of material read not done in that amount of time during the year.
    5th grade R,M, S was low % in BB, FBB (0-5%)
Higher % at advanced or prof
Few at B, should be looking at that group
Science is an area of concern. Basic % is too high. (30%)

  3. What evidence/data do you have regarding the level of implementation of the teacher/instructional practice and/or schoolwide practice that you planned in your last Cycle of Inquiry? Include information about what was not implemented as well as what was implemented.
  4. What evidence do you have that your focus on these students has positively impacted their learning?
  5. Math test scores across grades BB indicate math intervention needed as we do for reading. (talked about last year-what do students need help in?) B in ELA in 2nd grade:Math test scores across grades BB indicate math intervention needed as we do for reading. (talked about last year-what do students need help in?)
B in ELA in 2nd grade:
    -Read Naturally used
-Look @ scores to see if they moved to proficient
Never had so few in BB & FBB in the past. (track this?)
Test read to 2nd grade/3rd grade on their own to read it. More questions/page for 3rd –maybe why scores went down
    Testing language is important

Fall 2007

  1. What are your problem statements?
  2. Problem Statements

    Student Achievement Problems

Edison Elementary School 2007 CST Math Scores now show a discrepancy between Hispanic students, 33.3 and white students, 84.4.

Edison Elementary CST Math Results Scores showed a decrease of 30 points for Hispanic students from the 2006 to 2007.

Math scores show a decline from 2nd grade at 93% proficient to 73% proficient by 5th grade.

    Teacher Practice Problems

Edison teachers are currently using the district adopted Harcourt Math Series, and Everyday Calendar Math for all grade levels. In addition, teachers are using Rocket Math and math manipulates. Although these strategies are effective for many students, teachers are still finding students that struggle in math, with EL students at 68.8, Hispanic students at 33.3 and SED students at 58.3.

Teachers need to continue to collaborate within their grade levels and cross grade levels to identify support strategies that work with struggling math students.

  3. What are your inquiry questions?
  4. Student Achievement Questions

Are there some common agreements for the grade level that clearly identifies what it means when students are proficient constitutes proficiency with respect to a specific math concepts or skills?

    Teacher Practice Questions

What strategies are you using to address these struggling students?

What interventions/strategies could be used to support these students in class?

What interventions do you recommend beyond your regular classroom setting and beyond the school day do you recommend or want to try?
Are there some common assessments that the grade level uses in addition to district assessments?
How do you know these students are struggling?
What assessments and data do you have that shows these students are struggling? In which math skill areas are they struggling?

  5. What are your measurable goals?
  6. Edison Elementary School will increase the math scores for the Hispanic, students by 9 points, the SED students by 6 points and the EL students by 5 points to meet our Annual Measurable Objective target.

    Teachers will use:
    Total physical Response Circle Games
Harcourt Lessons, Realia, Hands on Activities, Visuals, direct instruction to teach. Calendar math, Mountain Math,

Teachers will collaborate to identify key reading comprehension strategies and will pre-teach, reinforce and review schoolwide vocabulary using a variety of methods.
